Show-Stopping Container Gardens
A garden is planted in the ground, right? Not always, and the gardens that really stand out make generous use of accents and other features. By incorporating plants in containers rather than in the ground you add depth, height, and contrast to your landscape. And if you really want to turn heads, try combining two, three, or four different types of plants in one large container.
Choose a mixture of heights, colors, and textures for maximum effect. One formula that works well in many different combinations is to choose a tall, eye-catching plant for the center (‘thriller’) surrounded by a second, medium-height plant (‘filler’), and then finished off with a trailing plant (‘spiller’) hanging over the outside edge. Of course, there are many other combinations that can be equally appealing, so feel free to experiment. Please remember to consider proportion and spacing when choosing and positioning your plants.
