Happy Mother’s Day!
The month of May is known for its flowers, and many people associate Mother’s Day with specific varieties — either Mom’s favorite or a type reliably in bloom on the second Sunday in May. Long ago, my 90 plus-year-old neighbor in Virginia, would remind me each year that the lilies-of-the-valley would always be blooming on Mother’s Day.
This year we honor Mom with a wild lily-of-the-valley. Known as the Canada mayflower (Maianthemum canadense), it is a small flower found in the filtered light of many northern woodlands. When you find it, think of all the wonderful, little things that Mom does that should never be overlooked.
